WOOLWORTHS COOMERA

Contract value: $3.0M

Scope: Bulk earthworks, civil drainage, asphalt pavements|

Bayleys Earthworks delivered the civil package supporting upgrades to the Woolworths Upper Coomera precinct. The job combined mass earthworks to establish new carpark and service yard levels, stormwater upgrades to control peak flows, and construction of durable asphalt pavements with clean tie‑ins to live areas.

Delivery approach that actually kept the programme moving:

  • Early set‑out and level control to lock in finished surface levels and meet accessibility grades at pedestrian routes and loading docks.

  • Staged construction with tight traffic management so shoppers, staff and deliveries could keep moving—no fantasy “full site possession.”

  • Hold‑point QA at every layer: proof‑rolls, density and level checks on subgrade, sub‑base and asphalt. Rework got caught early, not after line‑marking.

  • Practical environmental controls—stabilised entries, sediment controls, temporary drainage—to cope with wet periods without turning the site into soup.

Technical scope highlights:

  • Bulk earthworks: Cut/fill to design across carpark zones and the loading/servicing interface; removal of unsuitable material where encountered; import of select fill; subgrade remediation as required to achieve bearing and compaction; trimming to tolerance ready for pavement build‑up.

  • Civil drainage: Installation of new stormwater pipes, pits and inlets sized for retail catchments; overland flow paths respected; connections to the existing network with live‑service protection; local upgrades to improve capture and reduce surface ponding.

  • Asphalt pavements: Sub‑base and basecourse placement to spec; asphalt wearing course laid to achieve compaction and ride quality; saw‑cut and feathered tie‑ins to existing; line‑marking and signage coordinated to reopen areas safely and fast.
